Agreement on Payment of Pension Debt in Chubut

The governor of Chubut, Ignacio “Nacho” Torres, signed an agreement on Tuesday with the Minister of Human Capital, Sandra Pettovello, through which the National Social Security Administration (Anses) recognizes and commits to paying a debt of over $48 billion to the provincial pension fund. The signing took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Human Capital in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and establishes the transfer of the owed funds to finance the pension system of Chubut, a demand that has been sustained for years. According to the Argentine News Agency, the understanding is framed within the actions promoted by the provincial government, along with a lawsuit filed before the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation to demand the fulfillment of that obligation by the national state. Torres described the agreement as “an act of justice” and stated that “after a long time, and after years in which the national state did not advance in the payment of this millionaire debt, today we achieved that it is recognized and the settlement of what corresponds to the retirees of our province begins.” The provincial leader noted that the result responds to “a serious work, both in the institutional and judicial spheres,” and emphasized that from the beginning of his administration, the claim was promoted before the Nation. He also affirmed that “for years the claim was not promoted as it should have been,” and highlighted that the signing of the agreement will allow for a concrete solution for the beneficiaries of the Chubutense pension system. “We are talking about more than $48 billion that the Nation owed to Chubut, and that will now return to where they belong: to our pension fund,” expressed Torres, who added that the achievement belongs to “all retirees and retirees' centers that sustained this claim for so long.” Finally, the governor stated that “after years in which the retirees of the province were forgotten by different governments, today we begin to return to them what has always been theirs.
